Weight Loss Story of Jonathan Scott
Hello and welcome to healthylifefocus.com my name is Jonathan Scott (Owner of Healthy Life Focus).
I’m just your normal everyday guy who got fat after high school and decided to get back to being healthy.
Yes I am a Ohio State Buckeyes fan. You better not have a problem with that 🙂
From middle school on I was always involved in sports or being active. Whether it was basketball, running track, or just running around outside with my friends. I was always on the move. So naturally I never worried about gaining weight or watching what I ate. Plus I was a kid, who cares about that stuff right, lol.
But after high school all of that active activity stopped. I was working and going to college, hanging out with friends (inside), and clearly not watching what I ate. Because I didn’t have my sports to burn off all of the junk, I got fat. Simple concept right, you eat junk and don’t exercise you get fat.
Years go by, I switch jobs a couple times, work different shifts, and my eating schedule and habits are all whacky. Year after year I gain more and more weight. Yeah I noticed it, of course, but for whatever reason didn’t really care. I was an adult now. That’s what adults do. Get out of school, get a job, and get fat right lol.
Well enough was enough. Not sure what the final straw was. But I remember waking up the day after Christmas 2011 and said to myself, “What the hell are you doing? You can’t live like this”. I was getting older and knew I would be facing serious health issues the older I got. So I knew I needed to change my life and get in better shape.
I didn’t have a plan at that time. I just wanted to lose weight and was DETERMINED to do it. So I started researching weight loss programs and the popular one at the time was P90X. Which is a great program by the way, I highly recommend it. So I started doing P90X. I knew I didn’t really care about having 6 pack abs or being a fitness nut. I just wanted to lose weight and get in better shape. P90X helped me to start the process.
Now let me be clear. When I started exercising I could barely do 10 pushups. Let alone an entire workout. But I was determined so I knew I had to start small and work my way up. I guess being an athlete in high school helped me to know my boundaries and how far I could push my body. So I pushed on with doing as much P90X as I could do.
With my continued research, and what I learned from P90X, I started picking up more information about how 80% of weight loss is what you eat. It’s not ALL about working out and exercising. You can’t out work a bad diet. Trust me I tried. So I changed my focus to pay more attention to my diet and what I was eating. Soon my workouts were only 15 minutes in the morning and they consisted of basic moves (Jumping jacks, push ups, squats, lunges etc etc…).
Once I changed my mindset to really watch what I was eating the weight REALLY started to come off. Before I knew it I was down 65+ pounds and feeling really great. I now have more energy. I’m more alert. And most important I am now a healthier person.
I always get the question “How long did it take you to lose the weight?” well right after “How the hell did you do it”?. I never really payed attention to how long it took me to lose the weight. Mainly because I knew it was a lifestyle change and if I stuck to the script I would achieve my goals. But during the months of serious weight loss I actually slowed down how fast I was losing weight for 2 reasons.
- I was running through clothes like no other lol. It seemed like every time I turned around I had to keep buying new clothes. It was very fun. But gets expensive quick.
- I wanted to keep the weight off. So I knew this was a lifestyle change. You can’t jump on the latest fad diet, lose weight, and then expect to keep it off once you go off the diet. That’s the main reason we all fail at dieting.
But if I had to put a number on how fast I lost the weight I would say it took a solid 8 months if I combined the time I really watched what I ate and exercised on a regular basis.
At the time of this writing I am still losing weight and still have goals I want to reach. You can come along for the ride with me and join me with your own goals. We can lose weight together.
